I recently changed my internet service provider from AT&T to Spectrum and now my Canon MF230 printer no longer prints

It always comes up with an error message. How can I solve this problem?

Hello, thank you for using Howly.
What error message do you receive?

Customer Replay

I'll have to try and print in order for me to send you the exact message. Hold on.

Good, take your time.

Error printing on MF230 series

I mean, do you see the code of the printing?

Customer Replay

The printer couldn't print Microsoft Word - Microsoft Account
I don't see a code for the printing.

So, when you try to print, it says, that "error printing" on the pannel?

Customer Replay

In the queue, under Status, it simply states "Error - Printing"

I see.
Have you tried to cancel the queue and try to print again?

Customer Replay

I will cancel all documents and I will try to print again.
Exact same thing happened.

Have you tried to check your connection with the printer? Is it connected to your Wi-Fi?

Customer Replay

When I look at the printer, there is a blue flashing light under the wifi symbol.

If the blue light is flashing that means, that you need to connect your printer to the Wi-Fi. When it is connected the blue light should be solid.

  1. Please click the OK button after selecting Manual Connect.
  2. Navigate to the wireless router section and select what is available.
  3. Press the OK button.
  4. Enter the password.
  5. Hold the OK button for at least two seconds after entering.
  6. Use the OK button to confirm that you have selected Yes.
  7. This will enable the user to click OK when the screen below appears.
Customer Replay

Where is Mannual Connect?

Click OK, and follow the instructions, that I listed. After you press OK, the Manual connect will open.

Customer Replay

When I press OK on the printer, Manual connect does not open.

What do you see after you press OK?

Customer Replay

The window on the printer just shows if I want to copy. If I press Network Settings, I get "Select Wired/Wireless LAN" and other choices.

banner 9

So, you need to select Wireless LAN.

Customer Replay

I selected Wireless LAN, and it said settings applied. But the blue light is still blinking. I'm going to try and print. Hold on.

Good, keep me posted.
What is your progress so far?

Customer Replay

I tried printing, but it didn't work. I received the same error message.

I see. Can you, please, try to power cycle your printer? In this case, please, unplug it, wait for 2 minutes, and plug back in.

Customer Replay

I shut my printer off; unplugged it; waited two minutes; plugged it back in; turned it on and the blue light is still flashing.

  1. Select <Select Wired/Wireless LAN>, and press Ok.

Customer Replay

FYI - in Network Settings, under Select Wired/Wireless, the next choice is "Wireless LAN Settings". Should I try that?

Yes, please, try "Wireless LAN Settings"

Customer Replay

I did try "Wireless LAN Settings"; I selected "SSID Settings"; selected "Select Access Point", pressed OK. I'm following your directions. I'm still with you. Hold on.

Did the list of available networks appear when you selected "Select Access Point"?

Customer Replay

Yes, but after I selected the correct available network, I received this message: "Could not connect. Check the PSK settings.

It means you entered the incorrect password. Is your computer connected to the same Wi-Fi?

Customer Replay

During our chat, I don't recall entering a password. My computer is connected to the same Wi-Fi.

Could you follow these steps, please?

  • Press the "Menu" button on the printer's control panel.
  • Use the arrow keys to navigate to "Settings" and press the "OK" button.
Customer Replay

Done

  • Use the arrow keys to navigate to "Device Settings" and press the "OK" button.
  • Use the arrow keys to navigate to "Reset Settings" and press the "OK" button.
  • Use the arrow keys to navigate to "Yes" and press the "OK" button to confirm the reset.
Customer Replay

I don't have a "Device Settings" under Network Settings

Are you in General Settings? (not Network settings)

Customer Replay

I don't have/see any General Settings.

I mean just Settings. When you press the Menu button on your printer you have to select "Settings", not Network Settings
Didn't you select Network settings?

Customer Replay

FYI - When I press Menu, it gives me Direct Connection, Network Settings, Output Reports, Preferences, etc.

Could you select Preferences and tell me its options, please?

Customer Replay

Under Preferences, it says "Display Settings"

Is there something like "Reset settings" or "Factory reset"?

Customer Replay

No, I don't see that any where.

Okay, could you go back to the Menu and tell me the names of other sections after Preferences, please?

Customer Replay

After Preferences, under Menu, it says Timer Settings, Copy Settings, Scan Settings, Printer Settings, Adjustment/Maintenance, System Management Settings.

Could you check System Management Settings for the Factory Reset option, please?

Customer Replay

Under System Management Settings, it says: Network Settings, System Manager Info, Device Information, Security Settings, Select Country..., Remote UI Settings, Auto Online for Remote Scan, Use a USB Device, Enable Product Extension...,

Okay, let's try to reset your printer's network settings. Could you go back to the Menu and select Network settings, please?

Customer Replay

OK
I'm at Network Settings.

Does it contain "Reset network settings"?

Customer Replay

No

Could you tell me its options, please?

Customer Replay

Under Network Settings, the choices are: Select Wired/Wireless LAN, "Wireless LAN Settings", Direct Connection Settings, TCP/IP Settings, SNMP Settings, Dedicated Port Settings, Waiting Time for Connection, Ethernet Driver Setting, Initialize Network Settings.

Could you select Initialize Network Settings, please?

Customer Replay

I selected Initialize Network Settings, and pressed OK. The screen on the printer says: Waiting time for Connection at Startup; Ethernet Drive Settings; IEEE 802. 1X Settings; Initialize Network Settings;

Okay, could you try to press the Menu button again and open Network settings, please?

Customer Replay

It also gives a very brief message about turning the power off/on, but the message disappears too quickly.
OK, I'm at Network Settings

Okay, try to power off your printer, wait about 60 seconds and power it on again, then open Network settings again, please

Customer Replay

Will do.
I followed your directions. I'm at Network Settings, but now there is no blue light by the Wi-Fi symbol on my printer.

Yes, you need to connect your printer again. Is there Wireless LAN Settings?

Customer Replay

Which one? Select Wired/Wireless LAN or Wireless LAN Settings

The first one, please, Select Wired/Wireless LAN
Then "Wireless LAN"

Customer Replay

Done
I received the following: Settings applied.

Please, click on the Windows icon on your computer and enter "Devices and Printers"
Then open the app

Customer Replay

After entering "Devices and Printers" it took me to Settings, Printers and Scanners.

Yes, that's what we need. Do you see your printer on the list?

Customer Replay

yes

Does it say "Connected"?

Customer Replay

Under Manage your device, it says Printer Status: idle

Okay, could you try to remove your printer and click on the Add button to add it again, please?

Customer Replay

I removed the printer and then tried to add it again, but it wasn't listed.

Press the Menu on your printer again and select "Direct Connection" and select "Display SSID/Network"

Customer Replay

After selecting Direct Connection, I'm not getting "Display SSID/Network"

I'm sorry, select Network Settings and then Wireless LAN settings, please

Customer Replay

Wait! The flashing blue light is back and I do have "Display SSID/Network". Should I select it?

Not yet, please
Did you open Wireless LAN Settings?

Customer Replay

No, I'm still on the "Display SSID/Network" screen.

Could you go back and select Network Settings -> Wireless LAN Settings, please?

Customer Replay

The "Display SSID/Network" screen just disappeared. OK, I'm at Wireless LAN Settings.

Is there an SSID Settings title?

Customer Replay

Yes

Please, select it
Do you have "Select Access Point" there?

Customer Replay

Yes

Please, select it. It should start searching Wi-Fi networks

Customer Replay

Done. It is displaying PSK and I'm assuming that it wants a password

Okay, select your Wi-Fi Network and enter the password, please

Customer Replay

My password contains numbers, how do I enter numbers?

Don't you have these buttons on your printer?

image

Customer Replay

Hold on; I'm trying to figure it out. I was able to enter my Spectrum password, but I received the following: Could not connect. Check the PSK settings.

If your Windows computer is already connected to the Wi-Fi network, you can easily find the password through the Network and Sharing Center.
Should I send you the steps?

Customer Replay

I tried using the pass word on the router/modem and it worked! The blue light is on and not flashing. I'm going to try and print. Hold on.

You need to check if it's connected to your computer. In the Printers and Scanners app, do you remember how to open it?

Customer Replay

Yes, but my printer is not listed.

Even when you click "Add printer"?

Customer Replay

Found it. Adding it. Hold on.

Okay, good

Customer Replay

Success. Printer works! Deo Gratias!

Not all printers have the same menu, so I had to try different ways.
