My wife’s iPhone 10 gets a message from secure web-soft.com. It says her phone has viruses

Is is legitimate? It’s on her IPad too.

Short summary:

  1. Go to iPhone/iPad Settings and scroll down until you find the Safari app.
  2. Click on ‘Safari’, scroll down to ‘General’ settings, and click the toggle to enable ‘Block Pop-ups.’
  3. Turn off the pop-up blocker completely if it was already enabled.
  4. Scroll down to the ‘Clear History and Website Data’ button and click on it. Confirm the desired action.
  5. Navigate to the main iPhone/iPad Settings and click on Screen Time.
  6. Scroll down to ‘Content & Privacy Restrictions,’ click on it, and enable the first available option if it isn’t currently enabled.
  7. Next, go to ‘Content Restrictions,’ click on ‘Web Content,’ and select ‘Limit Adult Websites.’
  8. Where it says ‘Never Allow,’ enter the web-soft.com.
  9. Restart both devices.
  10. After the restart, check if the ad is appearing again. If it does, repeat steps 6 to 8, this time using the address top-official-app.com.
  11. If the issue persists, try adding ‘secure.web-soft.com’ to the blocked list instead of ‘web-soft.com.’
  12. Restart the phone after adding the address to the block list.
  13. Check if the ad is still appearing. If it does, you may need to clear the browser history.

Hello, thank you for using Howly.
Where is it popping up?

Is there a chance you have a screenshot of it?

Customer Replay

Yes

Could you share it with me?
Or, attach it to this chat with this little scrap icon in the right down part, or send it to my email help@howly.com

Customer Replay

Yes, I am looking at the picture right now

Customer Replay

What do you think?

It is a scam 100%, but just checking the method to clean it up without touching any applications
Alright. Do you have a chance to operate both of devices right now?

Customer Replay

do You mean IPhone and IPad? Or this phone and hers?

Top answer

Okay, perfect. Stay in this section, please

  • Scroll down to the ‘Clear History and Website Data’ button
  • Click on it and confirm the desired action
Customer Replay

Then what

Top answer

Then, let's just get it done to be sure

  • Navigate to the main iPhone/iPad Settings and click on Screen Time
  • Scroll down to ‘Content & Privacy
Restrictions’, click on it and enable the first available option if it isn’t currently enabled
  • Next, go to ‘Content Restrictions’, click on ‘Web Content’ and select ‘Limit Adult Websites’

Customer Replay

will I loose everything?

banner 9

No. You won't lose anything, it will just block this web-site on the devices

Customer Replay

I didn’t touch clear history and data. Should I?

Let's try without that yet, just do the last four steps, 6, 7, 8, 9.
If that doesn't work, it'd be more relative to think about clearing browser history

Customer Replay

I’m not seeing that choice

Which one? Could you specify the step number?

Customer Replay

6
i found it on phone
I did through never allow

Alright, and the web-soft.com is in the never allow section?

Customer Replay

yes

Alright, good job,*****. Now, I'd recommend you to restart both devices

Customer Replay

ok

Thanks! Appreciate your cooperation with me
After the restart, check if the ad is appearing again

Customer Replay

It is on my phone and iPad says “VPN App is recommended to continue watching in safe mode”

Does it have different link?

Customer Replay

top-official-app.com

Let's just try these steps with your phone:

  • Navigate to the main iPhone/iPad Settings and click on Screen Time
  • Scroll down to ‘Content & Privacy Restrictions’, click on it and enable the first available option if it isn’t currently enabled
  • Next, go to ‘Content Restrictions’, click on ‘Web Content’ and select ‘Limit Adult Websites’
  • Where it says ‘Never Allow,’ enter the top-official-app.com
Customer Replay

I did that on ipad

Okay
Try to use the web-browser again, let me know about result

Customer Replay

Google worked. Should I do Safari?

Sure, go ahead, let me know about that

Customer Replay

looks fine on IPad, but secure web-soft.com is still on phone
Only on google, not safari

Thank you for clarifying.
And you added web-soft.com on your phone to the block list previously, correct?

Customer Replay

yes

Have you tried restarting the phone, after you added the address to the block list?

Customer Replay

yes
I looked at it again and realized I left off the word secure. I just now tried it again in my phone. I’ll turn it off and see if it works.

Okay, good. Let me know about the results.

Customer Replay

I think it’s working now. That site that it was on came up with another strange message, but Google works on every other site, so I think it’s OK.

I’m glad I was able to get that sorted out for you. Before you go, is there anything else I can assist you with today?

Customer Replay

I think that’s it
