  1. Swipe down twice from the top of the screen to show Quick Settings.
  2. Tap the Settings icon.
  3. Tap Device Options, and then tap Reset to Factory Defaults.

Let me know how everything is going.

My tablet is locked and I don't know the password
I can't get in to setting

Okay, got you.
Could you clarify, why you don't know the password?

The tablet was given to me through a friend and they also forgot the password

Customer Replay

Okay, understood.
Is your device linked to the amazon account?

  1. Enter the wrong PIN or password at least five times. Your display will keep mentioning ‘Wrong PIN’ or ‘Wrong Password’ until finally, after the fifth attempt, you get a pop-up message that says ‘Incorrect Password’, and offers you a few options.
  2. The first option is, of course, to reset the password via your Amazon account. But if your device isn’t linked to your account the only choice you have left here is to perform a factory reset. So go right ahead and hit the ‘Tap here to perform a factory reset’ button.
  3. Your screen will then ask you to confirm that you do want to perform the reset, which you can do. You will then see a window that says your Amazon Fire tablet is being deregistered from your Amazon account.
  4. After this, the tablet will default to factory settings and you will find yourself at the setup screen once more, after which you can go ahead and set up the Fire tablet.

I held down on power button and volume and it went to factory reset before it wouldn't do it but for some reason it there this time .
