Hello! My name is Dmytro and I will be assisting you today. May I know your first name, please?
*****
Nice to meet you, *****!
Are you looking for advice on where to purchase the cable?
i need a usb cable to connect my garmin gps to my apple air laptop. Garmin model number NUVI2597
Yes, *****
Yes
You can get one on Amazon, for example https://www.amazon.com/Garmin-010-10723-15-USB-Cable/dp/B0035JL4UI
I’ve been to Amazon. The cable they show isn’t the one I need
Which one are you looking for?
The M1 processor does not support communication Garmin through Garmin Express. A bad cable and/or connection is not the issue here, it is the M1 processor that's the culprit.
it’s one that wil connect my laptop to my garmin gps
This is what they write on the Garmin forums: "It IS due to the M1 chip! I have 4 macs.....one is M1 and the others are intel (i5 and i9). Only the M1 Macbook air refuses to connect to my Garmin GPS using -Garmin Express-. Same cables, same GPS, same app, ...it is due to the M1 processor. Have to say though, the M1 processor is fast and stays cool when worked hard. M1 Apple processor still rocks and other then Garmin software not working with the M1 cpu, my M1 macs seem to work with most everything else."
So the cable is correct. it's just the issue with M1 processor
I need to know which USB cable to order . The one I got from Amazon doesn’t fit on either end
it's a known issue. hopefully, it's going to be fixed soon
have you gotten this one? https://www.amazon.com/Garmin-010-10723-15-USB-Cable/dp/B0035JL4UI
the cable is not correct it doesn’t fit my laptop or my GPS
Take a look at this one, please
https://www.walmart.com/ip/mini-usb-data-charging-cable-for-Garmin-nuvi-2557LMT-2589LMT-2597LMT/640483580
That’s the one I have. Both ends are wrong
can you take a photo of the Garmin port?
I have photos of both laptop and garmin
To attach pictures to our chat, you need to press the paper clip button in the lower right corner of the chat window. Then you have either to choose an image on your device or take a photo right away. Then confirm sending.

actually, you had to have a Garmin cable coming together with your device. have you checked the box?
What about other side of your laptop? do you have a usb port?

What about the front side of your Garmin device? you should have a mini usb port there
I have a round opening
Please see the first minute of this video here: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=PEtKkmDWkF65Y5pC2CbJGA
it's shown how to connect the Garmin device to the PC
In your picture you do have a cable connected to your Garmin already. is it a micro usb?
Looks like my garmin has a micro USB port
yes, it should, they all do
and your laptop as well should have a normal usb port
then the cable you've got should work
that cable is the power cable to the cigarette lighter
got you
then this cable will work for sure:
https://www.amazon.com/BoxWave-Garmin-2597LMT-DirectSync-2-Pack/dp/B00ZYYMDX4
it's exactly for your model
and this one: https://www.amazon.com/EDO-Tech-DriveSmart-DriveAssist-Motorcycle/dp/B00UPTABKU
the cable I have that you showed doesn’t fit either port
it's micro USB from one side (that you have the port for)
and the normal USB that you insert into the USB port of your laptop
The cable I got from Amazon and the one you showed don’t fit either device
Why?
wrong cable
is it micro USB and normal USB?
can you send the photo of this cable?

yes, correct. you should insert a smaller one into your Garmin where you have another cable inserted already
its micro USB
So the cable connects the gps through the power outlet?
Yes
so what is the other port for?
for some older models of PC that are not used anymore
Ok . Thanks a lot. I never would have guessed
I’m glad I was able to get that sorted out for you. Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
no that it. Thanks again
I am so pleased to see your issue got resolved!
