I can't get sound on my Dell laptop

Short summary:

  1. Try playing sound in your browser or media player to see if the problem is isolated to a specific application.
  2. Check for Windows updates by going to Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
  3. If an update is available, download and install it, and then reboot your laptop.
  4. Try playing sound in the browser again to see if the problem is resolved.

Hello, thank you for using Howly.
Got it, did you try any other steps on your own to fix it?

I have reset my router, turned off and on my laptop.

Tell me please, have you tried all the ways to play sound? You could try it in your browser to play something on YouTube or turn something on your Media Player.

Customer Replay

The only thing I tried was YouTube. I don't even know how to turn on my Media Player.

You can find any media file on your laptop and double-click on it, and tell me if you hear something, please.

Customer Replay

OK. Where do I find a media file?

Do you have any movies downloaded or music files?

Customer Replay

Not that I know of. I don't watch movies on my laptop and I may have some music files. Where do I find them?

Okay, tell me please, do you have anything connected to your laptop with Bluetooth?

Customer Replay

I am definitely not bored. I still have a home-based business. I have a wireless HP printer.

Okay, I meant anything that could play sound, sorry, didn't specify that.

Customer Replay

No, I do not

Got it. Have you noticed your Windows was updated during the last two days?

Customer Replay

Yes, I believe it was.

Probably, the sound problem could occur after that update.
