Uber app keeps saying I need to "check connection and try again."

I have an uber account but when I try to download the mobile app to my android, it keeps saying I need to "check connection and try again." I've checked the connection and it seems fine.

Short summary:

  1. Check if your date and time settings are correct. Go to Settings >> Date & Time, and enable Automatic Date and Time if it is not already enabled.
  2. If the date and time settings are correct, then try clearing the cache and data of Google Play Store, Google Play Service, and Google Services Framework. Follow these steps:
  • Go to Settings >> Apps or Application Manager (depending on your phone model).
  • Find and tap on Google Play Store.
  • Tap on Storage.
  • Tap on Clear cache and Clear data.
  • Now, find and tap on Google Play Service and repeat the same process of clearing cache and data.
  • Then find and tap on Google Services Framework, and clear its cache and data as well.
  • Restart your device and try downloading the Uber app again.

If clearing the cache and data doesn't work, then try uninstalling and reinstalling the Uber app:

  • Go to Settings >> Apps or Application Manager (depending on your phone model).
  • Find and tap on Uber.
  • Tap on Uninstall and confirm the action.
  • Go to the Google Play Store and search for the Uber app.
  • Tap on Install to download and install the app.

Nice to meet you, *****!
What troubleshooting have you done so far?

Customer Replay

I have an uber account but when I try to download the uber app to my mobile phone, I get a message that says "check your connection and try again." I've checked the connection and it is fine - I get and can send text messages and phone calls. Not sure what is going on but would like to have the app on my phone.

Thank you for an additional info

Customer Replay

OK

Top answer

In many of the cases, it has been found that the error is caused due to wrong Date and Time.
You can follow that in case your Date and Time are correct.

  • Date and Time in AndroidGo to Settings >>Date & Time
  • Enable Automatic Date and Time.
  • After that try to download the Uber app again
Customer Replay

Automatic date and time was already enabled

Good, then we're going to the next step.

Customer Replay

I am currently in the east coast and we live and are nomrally in cental time. But that setting was already enable.

Ok, thank you for the info. Sending next instructions

There is no "clear cache and data" option under Google Plat store. Choices are: Notification, permissions, remove permissions if app is unused, set as default, mobile data, battery, storage, memory, change system settings and App details in store.

Look at memory or storage, *****
There must be a "clear cache and data" option.

Customer Replay

Storage has a list items (App, Data and Cache) with a total spaced used. No clear cache option. Checking memory now
Memory also has a list - Average Memory usage, Frequency and Maximum memory usage. No clear option

banner 9

Ok, go to App details, do you see there "clear" buttons?

Customer Replay

When I go to "app details in store" I get a message that says "Something went wrong - try again." I have tried a couple of times and get the same message

Lets do it from the start

Customer Replay

OK

Go to, All the apps - Find the Google Play Store.

Customer Replay

i'm there

Tap on it, what do you see there?
Can you make a screenshot?

Customer Replay

Under Google Play there are: Notifications; Permissions; Screen time; Remove permissions if app is unused (this is turned on); Defaults/set as default; Usage/Mobile date, battery, storage and memory; and Apps details in Store
he first four categories under under the subheading : Privacy

I guess you are not on the right menu, allow me a moment

Customer Replay

I'm at Settings/Apps

Go to Google Play Store.

Customer Replay

long list of apps in alpha order
there

Then Find Data and Cache
Probably you missed this step, in the long list of apps find Google Play Store.

Customer Replay

Not one of the options - have: Privacy with three submenus (Notications, Permissions and Remove Permissions if app is unused - the last one is set to be on); Defaults with one submenu- set as default; Usage with six submenus - Mobile data, battery, storage and memory, Change system settings and app details in store.

Could you please make a screenshot of this menu?
Press the Power and Volume down buttons at the same time.

Customer Replay

How do I do that and transfer it to this chat, which I'm doing on my laptop.

Oh, you're right
Let's continue then

Customer Replay

Change System Settings and App details in store do not appear to be submenus to Usage but stand-alone submenus to Google Play Store

Tap on "Mobile data", what do you see there?

Customer Replay

There a date range first - 12/1/22 - 1/1/23. Then three three figures - total, foregroud and background with MB numbers for each. Then two items: Allow background data usage (this is checked on) and Allow data usage while data saver is on (this is checked off).
The data range can be changed to other one month ranges goine back to aug 1 to sept 1.

That is not the right menu, go back and tap Storage.

Customer Replay

There - under storage, there is a list of three items with MB storage numbers for each and a total. The three are: App, Data and

Are there any buttons like Clear Cache or Data?
If not, please, tap on every menu - "Data" and "Cache" and look there.

Customer Replay

Yes. At the bottom, there are clear data and a clear cache buttons.

Great! Then we can follow the instruction again.

Customer Replay

to do what?

Clear Cache and Data
Once you have cleared everything, Next you need to Force Stop the application.

Customer Replay

So I hit them both? which one first?

It doesn't matter, any of them could be the first
In total, you need your Google Play Store's Data and Cache to be cleared

Customer Replay

OK. Pretty scary message on Clear Data - everything including accounts is deleted. Still OK?

Yes, please

Customer Replay

done
It is taking its time before clear cache turns active

Re-open the Play Store, and try to download the Uber app again.

Customer Replay

I haven't done the clear cache one yet. Still go to Play Store?

It is processing still?

Customer Replay

I guess so. The clear cache button is still grey.

I guess it's cleared already, that's why that button is grey.
So, yeah, go to Play Store and try to download Uber App,

Customer Replay

on it

Take your time

Customer Replay

It takes me to Wallet and wants me to install that. Do it?

Uber app is free to download as I know.
How is it going, *****?

Customer Replay

It keeps taking me back to the Wallet. When I hit "not now" - It goes back to the main screen and when I hit "google play" it goes back to the wallet thing.

So you have the Uber app installed?

Customer Replay

I checked my apps and uber is still listed an installed. When I open it, I still get the message to enter my cell number and when I do, it still says to check connection and try again.

Tell me please, what Android version your phone has?

Customer Replay

Galaxy Z Fold3 5G. There's a bunch of info under Software Information. Do you need any of that?

No. Thank you for that info. I'm on it.
Tell me please, did you try to update the Uber app in Google Play Store?

Customer Replay

Yes, but it won't let me get past putting in my phone number and then I get the no connection messate
Unless there is some other way to update the uber app

It is only possible via the Google Play Store

Customer Replay

Which wants me to install wallet. which is not longer an installed app.
actually, Samsung wallet says it is still installed.

What is installed?

Customer Replay

wallet - but when I go to Google Play, it asks me to install wallet and won't let me do anything else. I hit install, and it took me back to screen asking me to install wallet. I am beginning to hate this phone
which I have loved up to now

I see, I will ask you to restart the phone now, it may help.

Customer Replay

OK
it is off and repowering up

Good.
After try updating again please.

Customer Replay

through google play?

Yes.
Let me know when you are done.

Customer Replay

same thing - I hit google play and it wants me to install wallet. I hit install and it takes me back to the same page asking me to install wallet. Wallet is not listed in settings as an app that is installed, but it won't let me install it

Can you make a screenshot of that, so I can check?

Customer Replay

wait - i think i am mixing up google play with google pay. hold on
at Google play and updating Uber app

Customer Replay

I think we've got it. Thanks for your help

Perfect.
You're welcome!
Is there anything else I can do for you today?

Customer Replay

I've experienced this issue with the Uber app a few times before. It's frustrating, but it usually resolves itself after a while
