The letters (and only the letters, numbers work) on my Lenovo IdeaPad are not working at all

I can't even get passed my sign on screen to try and do a Settings review from the desktop. I've tried the On-screen keyboard and it doesn't work either (numbers work but not the letters)

Hello, thank you for using Howly. I’ll be happy to help you out! May I ask your name?

Customer Replay

*****

Nice to meet you, *****!
So, your keyboard only registers numbers, right?

Customer Replay

Yes

Could you tell me the model of your IdeaPad?

Customer Replay

IdeaPad 81D6

Thanks a lot.
It seems like your keyboard has a NumPad. Could you please check, if you see a "Num Lock" button near a "Backspace" and "Enter" button?

Customer Replay

Yes there is

Could you tell me if it has something like a white light near it or right exactly on this button?

Customer Replay

There is a light on the button but it's off

Please, try pressing this button, so the light comes on

Customer Replay

Ok

And check if you can type in any letter

Customer Replay

They still don't work

Then, try turning it off and check if letters work again

Customer Replay

Still don't work

Got it, just to be clear, have you installed any Comcast apps on your laptop, like "Constant Guard"?

Customer Replay

No
Ok... just so you know, I've also tried the on- screen keyboard and that doesn't work either

Thanks for clarifying that
Could you please check if you can type in any letters while holding the "Fn" button? It is located right near "Windows" button.
So, you just hold down the "Fn" button and press any of the letters

Customer Replay

Doesn't work

Got it. Could you please power off your Laptop and remove a battery from it for a few minutes, then plug it back in?

Customer Replay

There is no removable battery and I've tried turning it on and off several times

Have you got any external keyboard near you?

Customer Replay

No... but if I were to purchase one, could that be an option? Even if it's just temporary?

It should be able to work this way

Customer Replay

So is that the only choice at this point?

Just to be clear, have you got a PIN password set up in your system?

Customer Replay

Yes

Could you please try restarting the laptop and tell me what comes up on the screen?

Customer Replay

That's why I can't even sign in...my PIN has one letter in it
Ok

Take your time, I'll be waiting for your reply :)

Customer Replay

Shut it down, restarted... still doesn't work

Could you tell me, do you see something like a PIN input field?

Customer Replay

Yes... the field pops up, I try to enter my PIN and the one letter in my PIN doesn't register... the numbers go in but the letter doesn't

Could you tell me, if you see any other buttons on the screen? Like "sign in options" area?
Could you click on it your cursor over the pictures in the "sign in options" area

Customer Replay

Yes... there is "I forgot my PIN" and then "Sign In Options" underneath that

Could you click on "Sing In Options" button and tell me what do you see?

Customer Replay

There are 2 icons that show up - one that says "PIN" when I hover over it and the other says Microsoft Account Password" (which I don't have incidentally)

Please, try clicking on the "Microsoft Account Password"
And check if you can type in your letters after it, please

Customer Replay

Fine... but like I said, I don't have it

I understand that, but it may be the only option

Customer Replay

Well, interestingly.... the letter DID work but the message that came up was that the password was incorrect and that if I can't remember the password, I can reset it from the lock screen or at account.live.com/password/reset.

Just to be clear, is your PIN connected only to this Laptop, or is it like a password to your Microsoft Account?

Customer Replay

Its only connected to the laptop

Got it. Could you make a photo of the screen while trying to log in and attach it in this chat please?

Customer Replay

You mean after I try logging in using the Microsoft Account Password option?

Yes, it'll help me understand it quite a bit better

Customer Replay

Welp... something miraculous happened. In the Microsoft Account Password box, I tried an old password that I use for my other devices and abra-cadabra, I'm in AND the letters work. It's been so long since I've used the Microsoft password to log on to this laptop I assumed that I had a different password on it that I probably don't use anymore

That's great! Is everything working fine on your laptop?
It'll now ask for your Microsoft password whenever you turn on your laptop, so if you want to get rid of that, we may do so too

Customer Replay

Everything seems be ok...functioning as slow as usual 🙂 ... I'm ok with using the Microsoft password to login... it's actually a password I started using again recently but I really just assumed it wasn't the one connected to my Microsoft Account

I’m glad I was able to get that sorted out for you. Is there anything else I can assist you with today?

Customer Replay

No... you've been great .I'm just gonna work on recuperating the 3 years of my life this stress just cost me - a million thank yous
