My TouchPad won't work, I have an Ideapad Gaming 3 15IMH05

Hello, thank you for using Howly.
Please describe your request with as many details as possible for me to get the whole picture of the situation.

Customer Replay

I have an ideapad gaming 3 15imho5. My touchpad stopped working.

Got it. Is it Lenovo, right?

Customer Replay

Yes. Forgot to mention that.

No worries, thank you for your answer.
What troubleshooting have you done so far?

Customer Replay

For troubleshooting, I went online and using my keys I navigated to the touchpad part of the system and I made sure that the touchpad was turned on. Also rebooted the computer. Neither worked.

Please try this:
Go to Device Manager, if you see a driver with a yellow mark on it, uninstall it, and click action, scan for hardware changes, then your touchpad driver will appear.

Customer Replay

Trying now . .
Got to device manager. See no yellow marks anywhere. See no entry that says touchpad.
I see "mice and other pointing devices," but no yellow mark. When I click on that I just get a tab that says general.

In this case, please try to follow this:

  1. Go to Device manager then proceed. ( Win + X )
  2. Drop down the keyboard & mice and pointing devices section
  3. If you see any duplicate drivers under these sections > Right click on them & uninstall the driver ( check the delete driver completely popup (VERY IMPORTANT) then proceed
  4. Save ( do not click "SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES ") & restart the laptop > And then please let me know the result.

I scrolled down to mice and other pointing devices, clicked on that. Got same menu with one tab that says general and underneath it a little picture of a mouse and the words mice and other pointing devices can't seem to highlight that, or I don't know how to. No duplicate entry there, but maybe I just need to find out how to highlight that?

Please provide me with a screenshot of it, if possible.

Customer Replay

Can't figure out how to do a screenshot on my laptop. Also then don't know how without the trackpad to email that to myself so that I can then open it on my phone and give it to you.

Can you make a photo of the screen using your phone?
To attach pictures to our chat, you need to press the paper clip button in the lower right corner of the chat window. Then you have either to choose an image on your device or take a photo right away. Then confirm sending.

I didn't mention before the big Google Drive thing in the center, but I haven't been able to get rid of that off the screen.

Please go to Bluetooth and Devices and send me a photo. Are you able to go there?

Customer Replay

One second, I'll see.

Thank you!
Could you sign in?

Customer Replay

Sign into what?

Into Google Drive as it asks you.

Customer Replay

Oh. I never do. I always just x out of that box. But I'll see if I can get to the sign in with browser button right now.
Don't know how to get to the blue sign in with browser button or x out of the box. Do you know how I can get to that?

Do you have access to your Google account?

Customer Replay

You think that's related to the touchpad issue?

As it asks you to sign in, yes. If you can close that window, please do it.

Customer Replay

The main thing that you need check the toggle next to Touchpad is turned On.

Customer Replay

I don't know how to close the window. I'm navigating with the tab button and the tab and shift buttons, but can never get to it
Oh. I have already been able to go to the touchpad button and both turn it off and turn it back on. I have done that already. Didn't affect anything.

You should download the latest drivers.
-Head to Lenovo’s support page and enter your laptop’s model in order to look for drivers.
Use this link: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/
-Click on Drivers & Software, enter touchpad in the search bar, select your OS iteration, and download any driver that shows up. Follow the on-screen steps in order to install them and restart your computer afterward.

How can I open my internet browser app without my trackpad working?

Please use Shift+Alt+Num Lock. A window will be displayed asking you if you wish to turn on Mouse Keys.

Customer Replay

Kk. Turned on mouse keys.

Use numbers with arrows to move the cursor

Customer Replay

It's working now. I tapped on the Windows key and the letter t and that allowed me to scroll through my open apps on the taskbar at bottom of screen. When I highlighted the Google Drive icon, the cursor came back alive and I was able to move it around with the touchpad. Thanks for your attempts to help me.

Great to hear, *****!

Customer Replay

Have a good one!

I’m glad I was able to get that sorted out for you. Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
