My mobile voicemail is not working, I have changed the password just recently, but it still does not work

I have an iphone 7

What more troubleshooting have you done so far?

Well i went to my phone, iphone that is, changed my password, and switched off then on again, and still my voicemail does not work

*****, let's first Make sure voicemail is set up on your iPhone:

  1. Start the Phone app.
  2. Tap the Voicemail tab at the bottom of the screen.
  3. If your voicemail hasn't yet been set up or needs to be set up again, tap Set Up. Follow the instructions to create a voicemail password and choose or record a greeting.

well, i have no real choices, just a word that says greeting

Great! That means that it is set up.

Let's now try the following:

  1. Start the Phone app and tap the Voicemail tab at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap Greeting at the top left of the screen.
  3. On the Greeting screen, you should see a checkmark for Default or Custom. If it's currently set to Default, check Custom.
  4. To preview the greeting, tap Play. To record a new greeting, tap Record, speak, and tap Stop when you're done.
  5. Tap Save.

Ok, done that, it went from default to custom, i have recored and saved, let me try and phone my cell from my landline

  1. Start the Settings app.
  2. Tap Phone.
  3. Tap Call Forwarding.
  4. On the Call Forwarding page, check your forwarding status. If call forwarding is enabled, turn it off by toggling the button to the off position —it will then appear greyed out

well i had to shake the phone to get it started, rather weird, also the person who had it before me never cleaned out the phone

how can i make it longer

You can try to call your iPhone and record a message by yourself and then listen to it to double check.
The caller only makes it longer, the longer they speak the longer the message.
