My Epson WF-3820 scanner is suddenly pulling the pages in at an angle and jamming repeatedly

Short summary:

  1. Check that the paper cassette is completely inserted into the printer.
  2. Power cycle your printer by disconnecting the power cord from the rear of the printer, unplugging the power cord from the wall outlet, waiting at least 1 minute, plugging the power cord back into the wall outlet, reconnecting the power cord to the printer, and turning the printer on.
  3. Remove and reload the paper in the cassette and adjust the edge guides. Make sure the paper stack is not above the tab on the edge guides inside the cassette.
  4. Cancel any print jobs, if necessary, and remove any originals from the ADF.
  5. Open the ADF cover and carefully remove any jammed pages from beneath the ADF.
  6. Raise the document cover and carefully remove any jammed pages.
  7. Make sure your originals are not bent, folded, or curled and do not have tape, staples, or other materials that could obstruct the feeder.
  8. Check the ADF rollers for any dust or debris.
  9. If the issue persists, try scanning again but load a lesser paper.

It was working fine yesterday morning and then started pulling docs in at an angle, causing it to jam

Doing all that now
All set

Got it
Now please remove and reload the paper in the cassette and adjust the edge guides. Make sure the paper stack is not above the tab on the edge guides inside the cassette.

Done

Now try to print again

Customer Replay

It's not a print issue, it's a scan issue. And it just did the same thing again. It pulls the paper in and halfway along, it starts going off on an angle and jams
This is for top-loading docs to scan, not putting them directly on the glass as I'd do for a single page. As I said, yesterday a.m. it was working fine

I see
So the issue occurs in the automatic document feeder, right?

Customer Replay

yes

Got it

  2. Remove your originals from the ADF.

There are no jammed pages anywhere

Top answer

Okay, remove if there are any, if not then good
Lower the document cover
Raise the ADF input tray and carefully remove any jammed pages if there are any

Customer Replay

It pulls them halfway in and jams and then I tug them back out immediately

Customer Replay

They don't

author

Could you try to scan again but load a lesser paper?

Customer Replay

no help

Top answer

Since the issue is with scanning and the paper is being pulled in at an angle and jamming, it's likely a problem with the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).
Have you also checked the ADF rollers for any dust or debris?

Customer Replay

just did
Found a small piece of paper in there -- and that seems to have fixed the issue! THANK YOU

author

Okay, that's great!
I’m glad I was able to get that sorted out for you. Before you go, is there anything else I can assist you with today?

Customer Replay

Nope. Have a good rest of your day

author

Thanks! Same to you, *****!
