My brother printer DCP-J41 won't stay switched -on, I have tried resetting

My electrician got it working at his house but when he brought it back it just swiches on when plugged in and then shuts down and won't swith on again. If I plug it in somewhere else it does the same thing just one time. When I reset it also showed power before it shut down again

Hello, thank you for using Howly. I’ll be happy to help you out! May I ask your name?

Which computer do you have?

Customer Replay

dell xps 13

Thank you
Remove power cord and wait 30 seconds. Then remove paper trays. Reconnect power cord and switch on at the wall. Wait for printer to boot just to add it won't work even if not connected to laptop although in the past I could use it with the USB or wifi although if it was then turned off at the power the wifi connection had to be reset. just FYI in case relevant
Thank you

Customer Replay

do you mean remove power from wall or back of printer?

The main thing is to disconnect it from the electricity

Customer Replay

Perhaps you have an old cartridge?

Customer Replay

I bought a new black - shall I change it?
when in 'print' can I tell the printer black only?

If the colors are not showing well, try putting in a new
Yes, of course
Open Windows Settings by clicking the Windows Start icon, typically located at the bottom left corner of your desktop. Then click the Settings (gear) icon.
On the Settings menu, click Devices.
Click Printers & scanners.
From the list of installed printers, click the name of the printer you want to set up. This expands the listing to give more choices. Click Manage.
This opens the Windows Manage your device screen.

Customer Replay

Use my instruction, please

Customer Replay

Customer Replay

that all worked again! amI going to have to do this everytime ?

You may have a problem with your printer
I think that if you do not disconnect the printer from the power supply this error will not occur again.

Customer Replay

So leave it plugged in and the printer switched on too?

If I'm not mistaken, the printer can be in sleep mode when you're not using it

Customer Replay

that's fine - I'll see how it goes - at least it is useable , Thanks for your help
