I think my other computer has been compromised. There is an ongoing obnoxious message saying that my computer has been locked up and to call windows defender security. I called the number and the guy wanted me to push the windows button on my computer. I told him no. There was a lot of phone activity in the background. How can I get my computer back working?

Actually yes, if you see such messages stating from Microsoft with the phone number to call, you can be sure that it is a scam. Could you please tell me did you give them access to your computer?

Customer Replay

No, I did not to my knowledge. He wanted me to push the windows 4 square key on my computer. I did not do it.

Did you follow any links from that message about your computer has been locked up?

Customer Replay

No, I did finally cut it off for a minute.

If you see the message about your computer has been locked up with the phone number, just close the website, or browser, then restart your computer and try to avoid that webpage

Customer Replay

It won't let me. The screen is blocked out except for the scam message

Try to close the browser completely

Customer Replay

It is all covered up. I can't get to it.

In this case, just force your computer to restart. Press and hold the power button till your computer will shut down, then turn it back on

Customer Replay

I did that a little while ago and when I restarted it, the message came back on. I will try it again. How long should I wait until I restart?
Let me know when I should restart

Please restart it now.

Customer Replay

same problem. It came back

Okay, got it.
Could you please press and hold the power button for a few seconds?

Customer Replay

I will do it now
still holding

Customer Replay

When it's done, turn it back on.

Customer Replay

ok, I am seeing something that says updates are happening
I am trying to sign back on now

Please wait till the update is finished.

Customer Replay

That seems to have worked. If it happens again, should I just hold the power key again?
