Hello, thank you for using Howly.
Do you use your Epson printer with Windows 10?
yes
Got it! Please let me know what other ways of solving this issue you already tried so I don't send you the instructions that didn't work.
I have used the epson troubleshooter and the windows troubleshooter I either get told that the problem can't be fixed or that they don't know how to fix it. Regardless of the problem the printer can be found but can't be communicated with.
Noted! Thank you!
Do you use a wireless or wired connection between your computer and your printer?
wireless. My last printer was from HP and at some point, it would only work from my laptop if I wired it up on USB, yet my wife could use it wireless. I had to get rid of it. I hope that your printer is not the same. The difference being the same problem exists on both laptops.

Ok
Please follow the steps below to set upyour printer online:
that has been done.
Now, please click on the ‘Devices and Printers’. The printers list will be displayed.
done
Please right-click on your Epson printer and select “See What’s Printing”.
Click on printer and remove the check mark from “Use Printer Offline”.
Done, there was no check mark on "Use printer offline"
Got it! In this case, please return to the list of printers page, select your printer and right click on it, and make sure that there is a checkmark on ‘Set as Default printer’ option. If not then select the option.
Interesting. The printer is not set as default and attempting to do so is refused saying that there is already a default. I cannot find one if there is.
now the printer has set itself as default
Could you please take a screenshot of the message you get when you are trying to set your printer as a default one? Also, please let me know if you see your old HP printer there in the list of printers.
Very strange. To do what you say I have to remove the default setting and nothing happens when I try to do this.
There is no other printer with the exception of the microsoft drivers
Okay, then don't try to do it.
*****, tell me please, do you have Epson ET-4750 Drivers and Utilities Combo Package for Windows installed on your laptop?
I have a connection checker and portal. Nothing else. However these were fine until recently
Got it, probably it needs some updates.
Please download this Combo package and install the Utilities which are not installed on your computer:
https://dl.drivers-epson.com/epson/8/Epson-ET-4750/Epson-ET-4750-Drivers-and-Utilities-Combo-Package-for-Windows.exe
You can exclude Fax Utility from the installation.
Still working on it. However it is trying to install some software and cannot find the printer. This is where I would normally , now anyway, turn the printer off.
Restart the printer, please.
Is that to unplug the power or just to press the on-off button.
For the first time on-off button and wait for 10 seconds at least before turning it on.
turning the printer off and then back on seems to work. I don't know why or whether I will have to do this every time I turn the printer on. This might be the solution, just not a normally acceptable one
I understand that and don't want to leave it as it is.
Nevertheless, the software did not install.
Can you try it now, when the printer is on?
I printed a test sheet well so whatever else may be a problem it is printing.
Okay, but somehow we need to test if it will not go offline again. Have you tried to install the Utility Package after the printer is on?
having looked at the list of software there was nothing to install which I could associate as a utility package.
At least I'd like to ask you to install EPSON Software Updater from that package. Also, Scanner Driver and EPSON Scan 2 Utility can help sometimes if you will have problems with drivers in the future.
I understand and I am sure that some of those are already installed so hopefully that will do. However, should a similar event take place I will be looking for updates. Epson do install updates every so often. It made me wonder if one of them caused the problem.
Yes, it could download a damaged driver or you had a bad internet connection at that time. The Wi-Fi network could give problems also, I recommend unplugging the router for 30 seconds and plugging it back in if the offline status will occur later.
Here's hoping that it won't
So to assume, does it still works properly?
I am going to assume so. I will keep checking as usual. Thanks for your help.
I was glad to help, *****!
Do you have any additional questions I can help you with?
I think that is enough for one day!
