iPad is frozen and won't turn off

i can't' turn it off to reset it and the screen is frozen

What troubleshooting have you done so far?

i tried to turn it off so it would reset, but, it won't turn off. i don't know any other way to reset it

Have you tried the following:

  • Press and hold either volume button and the top button until the power off slider appears.
  • Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.


To turn your device back on, press and hold the top button until you see the Apple logo.

Let's try to restart an iPad with a Home button:

what happens now?

  1. While your device is connected, follow the steps for your device:

  • Press and quickly release the volume button closest to the top button.
  • Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  • Press and hold the top button until your device begins to restart.
  • Keep holding the top button.
  1. On your iPad with a Home button: Press and hold both the Home button and the top button.
  2. Keep holding the button until you see the recovery mode screen.
  3. When you get the option to restore or update, choose Update.

ok, it seems to be working now, but, i didn't see any options to update or restore, it just came back on

it was my home screen, but i just powered it off and back on to see if it would work and it did. now i'm back on the home screen

So can you use it normally right now?

yes, i think so, i'm able to sign on and open apps for games and things so it looks good
