The software displays a message stating that it needs a specific directory to be selected. when you press OK the screen clears and then displays the notification.

No, It affects a second app without displaying the notification. This software does not respond tp keyboard input
Both software install ok but the problen arises when trying to change settings

In the App, you mean?
In the software that displays the notification it states that it needs a root directory to be nominated. when you press ok in preparation to nominating the directory it shows the notification
