Why does Twitter think I am @***** when I am @*****?

Short summary:

  1. Request a password reset from the password reset form: Go to https://twitter.com/account/begin_password_reset and enter your email address associated with your Twitter account. Follow the instructions provided by Twitter to reset your password.
  2. Check if you have access to your account: Once you have reset your password, try to log in to your Twitter account using your username and the new password. If you are able to log in successfully, check if you can see your profile, recent tweets, followers, and people you are following. If you can't see any of these, it's possible that Twitter has reset your account due to security concerns.
  3. Contact Twitter support: If you still can't access your account or your followers and following list are missing, you may need to contact Twitter support for help. Go to https://help.twitter.com/en/forms/account-access/regain-access/hacked-or-compromised and submit a support request. Make sure to use the email address associated with your Twitter account and explain the issue clearly. Twitter support should be able to help you recover your account.
  4. Keep your account secure: Once you have regained access to your account, it's important to make sure your account is secure. Make sure your password is strong and unique, and consider enabling two-factor authentication to add an extra layer of security.

I have just lost access to my standing Twitter account because I was required to enter my password and then the bot did not recognize my account. My user name is @***** but Twitter thinks I am @***** I cannot fix this Why can Twitter not recognize the account I have had for years as @*****. I have just lost 70+ followers and the list of 70+ people I am following and am attempting to start over again as @***** But I am NOT happy!

Could you please also specify, if you were signed out of your twitter account?

Customer Replay

Yes I was signed out and when I tried to sign in today I was required to enter my Google password and when I entered it I was told I had the wrong user name and/or the wrong email.

I am NOT @***** I can get into my account with this user name, but I dont have any of my followers or my list of people I am following. I am basically having to start all over. What I want to change is my user name

It seems, that your account is hacked or compromised.
Please, contact Twitter by submitting a Support Request https://help.twitter.com/en/forms/account-access/regain-access/hacked-or-compromised in order to recover your account
Also, be sure to use the email address you associated with the hacked/compromised Twitter account

Actually Twitter has thought I was @*****for quite a while, because every now and then I would get an email addressed to that user name. But I have been successfully using Twitter as @***** for quite a while, and using it successfully within the last week. The only difference is that today when I clicked on Twitter it asked me to enter my password instead of simply taking me directly to my home page.

Oh, I see
So in fact, you have access to your account, correct?

Customer Replay

Correct, but I am having to start all over because my profile, my recent tweets, my followers and my "followees" are ALL GONE

Top answer

I see the point
As I can see, Twitter occasionally resets accounts if it considers them compromised. It means, it can erase the followers number, your direct messages and etc

OK thanks
