Nice to meet you, *****!
You might want to consider changing your password and making sure it is a strong one. You can also add 2 Factor Authentication to your account for more security
Additionally, check your device list to see if there is a device signed in that you don't recognize.
I can explain you how to do all of this

I believe I was to receive a password or pin #via email in order to proceed. I have not received any email from Apple

Proceed to where? Can you please send me a screenshot of that email?

Great. Let's check your Apple ID device list to find where you're signed in. If you see any device that you do not know, you will be able to permanently delete if from your account
Use the web to find where you're signed in
From the Devices section of your Apple ID account page, you can find all of the devices that you're currently signed in to with your Apple ID, including Android devices, consoles, and smart TVs:
1. Sign in to appleid.apple.com,* then select Devices.

2. If you don’t see your devices right away, click View Details and answer your security questions.
Please let me know when you get there and check if you recognize all of the devices in the list

when I clicked on Account Security I saw three trusted devices -- my apple watch, my iPhone just my name and an icon I couldn't decipher but I assume is my ipaad

Do you have only 1 apple ID?
Customer Reply
yes as far as I know.

Good. In this case, I suggest you changing your Apple ID's password for security reasons. To make sure noone is using your apple ID for their purposes
1. Please open appleid.apple.com again
2. see on the left you have Sign-In and Security section
3. In the Sign-In and Security section, click Password
4. Enter your current password, then enter a new password and confirm the new password.
We suggest you use a strong password, do not use your date of birth, SNN, or something that can be guessed by others.
5. Click Change Password.

I'm having trouble changing my password. I put in a newly created password and then w2hen I try to confirm it, as soon as I type in the very first letter, it says it's wrong. Now what?

you should type all of the password till the end to confirm it. It says wrong when you type only a few letters because the new password is not complete
Customer Reply
ok

please let me know if it worked
Customer Reply
You're right. It worked!!

Great!
I’m glad I was able to get that sorted out for you. Is there anything else I can assist you with today?

Now is the original notification problem of my old password being used to face time on some other phone still to be resolved?

Even if anyone used your Apple ID, they will not be able to do it anymore since you have changed your password
Customer Reply
Good. Can I assume that I will not be charged for any facetiming calls that already took place

Apple does not charge a toll or fee to make or receive any calls on Facetime
Customer Reply
No, but ATT might if the calls were out of country.

Please check with ATT if there were any international calls from your number
To reach them please Call 611 or 1-800-331-0500
