I was using the Excel Tutorial on my new computer, and it froze

Please, try to do the following:
Press simultaneously "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" on your keyboard. It will bring up the Task Manager window or a drop-down menu that will allow you to see the status of all currently running programs and to terminate any of them.

I terminated all, including Excel.

Now try to open Excel one more time, it suppose to work fine
I think it has opened ok. But I'm afraid to try the tutorial again; it might freeze up again!
