Hello, thank you for using Howly. I’ll be happy to help you out! May I ask your name?
*****
Nice to meet you, *****!
What troubleshooting have you done so far?
looked up on internet but nothing changed
even started a new spreadsheet
Have you tried formatting the cell as text?
yes but still comes up as 888 looks like 8.88
unless i keep adding 8s
I see. So it is only with three digits, correct?
two digits will look like this .88
one digit 9
Okay, I see. But if you subtract or add digits, everything's normal?
no
Got it.
its on the whole spread sheet
whereever i type
What version of Excel do you use?
the latest version was down loaded
not sure of the number
Thank you for clarifying!
Could you please tell me when and how did the problem occur?
i was working in the spread sheet and i hit something
but not sure what
my fingers get in the way
No worries, I will do my best to help you.
Select the cells you want to format. On the Home tab, select Increase Decimal or Decrease Decimal to show more or fewer digits after the decimal point.
Each selection or click adds or removes a decimal place. Your new decimal places setting is now in effect.
it either adds zero or rounds it off but as soon as i type a number ex;888 it comes up as 8.88
excel 2019
Thank you for clarifying!
Have you tried restoring Excel to the default settings?
exvel version 2211
Thank you.
yes
Did not help?
no
Would you be willing to try again, please?
yes
hold on
ok
Let me know when you are done.
i do not see a detect and repair
What do you see there?
get started
Can you send me a screenshot?
yes hold on
Sure, take your time.
it now says sorry, something went wrong
Is it comes up when you tried to take a screenshot?
yes
my network connection are good even though it says to check it
Do you receive that notification in Excel?
yes
just stopped
Ok, got you.
Try to go to File – Options – Advanced – Editing Options – Uncheck "Use System Separators".
Also, format the cell as "Numbers".
ok i will try it
Take your time.

I’m glad I was able to get that sorted out for you. Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
