How to see the total remaining memory on an iPhone

If you only need to find out how many gigabytes are available on your smartphone, the fastest way is to look at the summary information about the gadget.

To do this, go to "Settings" → "General" → "About" and look at the "Available" line, which is under "Capacity". This will indicate how many gigabytes of the total are currently available.

How to see detailed remaining memory on an iPhone

If you are not satisfied with the short answer and need to see not only the number of gigabytes but also what is using the space, you should go to another section of the smartphone.

  1. Open Settings and go to "General" → "iPhone Storage".
  2. Wait a few seconds while the device analyzes all the content on your smartphone and builds a small graph. The remaining space is not reported here directly but in the format "XX GB of YY GB used". However, when you look at the colored chart, it's easy to see what's consuming the most space.

Below will be a list of all applications, along with the date last used and the volume occupied. You can open each one to clear the cache or delete it. At the very bottom, you can see how much space iOS itself and system data are taking up. You don't need to do anything with the latter - this is a cache for quick access to app data, which will be cleared automatically when there is not enough space.

When the device is connected to your computer, you can check the available space directly from Finder or iTunes.

  1. To do this, make sure that your iPhone is connected to a Mac or other PC via cable or Wi-Fi.
  2. Next, launch Finder or iTunes and select the device in the sidebar.
  3. At the same time, confirm on the iPhone that you trust this computer, and then do the same on the PC by clicking "Trust".

After that, the total storage capacity and available space will be shown under the smartphone's name. Below, you can see a chart with color separation by content type for visual assessment. Hovering the cursor over each category will show the exact amount of space occupied.
