Hello, thank you for using Howly.
What is the issue with your RAM?
so im not really having an issue with the ram itself, but I am considering buying 2x16 gb ram sticks to replace my current 2x8 gb ram sticks, and I do not know if I am buying the right ones, Right now I have the 2x8 GB Corsair Vengeance RAM sticks.
Ok, and which ones are you looking to buy? In terms of brand
Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB DDR4 DRAM 2400MHz
Yes, you can put a couple of 16GB modules instead of the other couple as long as they are same size in couples
how do I know if my motherboard can handle it?
Can you specify the model and brand of your motherboard?
it is an Omen 30L Motherboard
thats what it says on the motherboard, and the 30L is the model of my Omen desktop
alright, thank you very much *****, you were a big help!
wait, one more question, if that is okay
Sure, go ahead
the main reason I am buying the ram is because one of the games that I play the most has been acting up and being very weird lately, making it almost unplayable, and I am wondering if using a bigger RAM will help to solve this issue?
Can you specify what game is it?
It is called FiveM
Ok, and what exact issue with it are you experiencing?
well, it has been running perfectly for the last year, and now when it is downloading the content manifest, which is all of the "mods" that the server uses, it download them very slowly and the game has become very laggy, and textures take a long time to load in.
this started about a week and a half ago.
Have you encountered a similar issue with any other games?
nope, all of my other games run very smoothly with virtually no issues.
Have you tried any other troubleshooting, besides looking for RAM?
yes, I have deleted all game files from my PC, uninstalled and reinstalled the game, uninstalled and reinstalled the base game, GTA, from which FiveM needs to run off of. I have cleared all of my server caches. these have helped once or twice, but then it just goes back to being very slow within 1-2 days.
GTA is Grand Theft Auto 5
Does GTA itself run normally?
Yes, to my knowledge, I played it just a few days ago.
Is your internet connection stable?
Yes my internet connection is very stable
Does this happen with every server you join or on a specific one?
Just a specific one, my main server that I have played on for months now.
and it started about a week and a half ago.
I see, are you using an SSD or an HDD?
I am pretty sure it is an SSD
Ok, from what I can see, 16 GBs of RAM should be the sweet spot, so the issue shouldn't be in the RAM
I'd start by turning off show progress in FiveM and turning the graphics to Normal
alright, how would I go about turning off "show progress"?
would it be "streaming progress"?
if that is the case, then the option is disabled already.
Great, the simply turn the graphics to Normal, restart the game and try again please
alright, please standby.

should I change any of those?
to help better the problem
No need, they are already on minimal settings
good, alright let me restart the game and check
Sure
should this help with the delay in asset loading as well?
Texture loss can be stoped by turning texture quality to normal, however, connection always depends on the sever and how far and what region it is in
that may be the issue here, I am american, and the server is UK based
Please note that public FiveM servers are full of unoptimized scripts, files, map mods, etc. In addition, many FiveM servers have oversized streams, meaning they are the prime contributor towards this texture loss.
If changing the graphics to Normal doesn't fix it, there's a chance you're playing on a server with too many unoptimised streamed assets. I suggest contacting the server owner in that case

should I change this at all?
It does the following: distant objects in GTA seem much more high-quality, particularly when viewed at extreme angles.
Depending upon your hardware, you might or might not be able to feel the drop in frame rates, but higher values of video memory are used when AF is enabled as compared to when it isn’t.
So, in simple words and to summarize anisotropic filtering in the context of gaming, without the AF feature enabled, distant items appear blurry. Still, when you increase the value of AF, they become clearer.
I have an RTX 2060 graphics card
so would it be better lower or higher?
With your hardware, a setting of 8x should be fine, but you're free to test out 8x and 16x and see which works for you
gotcha, well, the game works much better now, and I think you saved me the 90 dollars to buy new RAM, so thank you!
Happy to help! I’m glad I was able to get that sorted out for you. Before you go, is there anything else I can assist you with today?
nope that should be it!
have a great day!
