Somehow my computer mic is not working

Hello, thank you for using Howly.
Could you please tell me when and how did the problem occur?

It seemed to be working then on zoom no mic was found. I went into my system and no mic in the device input.

Got it, and what troubleshooting have you done so far?

That will be the first and the easiest way to solve that issue, sometimes software has problems, and a simple reboot could help.

Now please, go to Start > Settings > System > Sound, and check if the microphone working.

Now, please right-click on the Start button > Device manager > and look if there are any unrecognized devices.

Then, please press simultaneously Win+X buttons and click on device manager.

  1. In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
  2. Double-click Sound, video, and game controllers.
  3. Right-click the name of the sound hardware, and then select Update driver.
  4. Select Search automatically for updated driver software, and then wait for Windows to search.
  5. If a software update is available, let Windows install it.

Alright, then let's try to use the Windows audio troubleshooting tool.
Here's how:

  1. In Windows, search for and open Control Panel.
  2. Select Troubleshooting.
  3. Under Hardware and Sound, select Troubleshoot audio recording.
    If a window displays prompting you for an administrator password or confirmation, type the requested credentials.
  4. The Sound troubleshooter opens. Click Next. The troubleshooter checks the audio service status.
  5. Select the device you want to troubleshoot, and then click Next.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions and make any changes suggested by the troubleshooter. When done, close the troubleshooter.
