I googled the problem, and went through the steps of recovering an account, but it ended up just taking me to my other Gmail account that I still have and not recovering the old one

- Go to the page
https://accounts.google.com/signin/recovery - Enter the email, then click "Next".
- Instead of entering your password, click "Try another way"
- Enter the phone number.
- Choose the option "Send a code".
- If you don't have access to the phone number, please choose the option "Try another way" and follow the on-screen instructions.
But be sure to put in the right email address

That's the address for the account I need. I deleted it a while back. Could it just be to long since I deleted it to recover it?
Yes, google had to delete it after sometime and it not exist anymore. Sorry.
