Is it possible that the outgoing speaker is broken?

I use my Dell computer, and this week my peers could not hear me. I could hear them and the volume was up. Last week they said they could hear an irritating noise in the background; the noise must have been coming from my speaker since I couldn't hear it

Hello, thank you for using Howly.
Could I ask you to tell me the model of your Dell computer?

Customer Replay

That's a good question. I'm looking for a model.

Could I clarify if your computer is a laptop or a personal computer?

Customer Replay

It's a PC--not a laptop

Could I ask you what you use as a microphone with your PC? It could be headphones, for example.

Customer Replay

No headphones--just the built in mics. I can hear everything but my peers can't hear me.
Last week there was a rough sound on their end--not mine. Now no sound gets through.

I got you, *****! Let me know if you have ever used this microphone and it works.

Customer Replay

Yes. It was working just fine!

Please, tell me if you tried to update your Win before your mic stopped working or something else.

Customer Replay

No I did not try to update before but I have done so today--trying to fix it. Actually I don't know if it's still broken. My next Zoom class is on Monday.

I got you, *****! I will do my best to fix it!
Could you tell me if you tried anything else to solve it?

Customer Replay

No, nothing else--I don't know much about computers. I would not try to fix it myself!

Thank you for the answer, *****!
Let us try to check your mic settings as a first step.

Customer Replay

I just ran through the Dell maintenance program this morning.
OK

Noted, *****. thank you for the info!
Please, Select Start > Settings > System > Sound.
In Sound settings, go to Input, and under Test, your microphone, look for the blue bar that rises and falls as you speak into your microphone.

Customer Replay

Where is "Start"?

The start is the Win logo on the left bottom corner
Is everything clear with the provided instruction?

Customer Replay

Yes! I found it. I can hear the tone easily.
Can we check it by having us talk to see if you can hear me?

Currently, we don't have an option to communicate via calls.
Please, look for Input and Choose your input device and then click the blue Device properties link. This will pull up the Microphone Properties window. Click the Levels Tab and you will then be able to adjust your microphone volume settings.

Customer Replay

It seems like both the output and input speakers are working. I heard the tone both times. Maybe it's working! On Monday, We'll see. I'll call back if it's not working then!
Thank you!

Thank you so much, *****!
