I would recommend the following steps to regain access to your account:
- Make sure you’re connecting from the Wi-Fi network and device you normally use.
- Go to facebook.com/login/identify
- Find your account by searching for your phone number or email address.
- Send a recovery code to your phone or email address.
- Enter the code carefully, without spaces or other symbols and press "Continue".
how do I send a recovery code? I don’t have a smart phone so I cannot access it that way.

When I go to the site you suggested it takes me to my new blank Facebook page. There is no place to search using my email

no because when I had that I was able to put in a new password.

- Copy the link with your mouse or CTRL + C ----> facebook.com/login/identify
- In the Safari app on your laptop, choose File > New Private Window
- Put the link in the search bar of your new private Window > Enter
