Hello, thank you for using Howly. I’ll be happy to help you out! May I ask your name?
*****
Nice to meet you, *****!
I'm very sorry to hear that.
If you see the option to restart and show password reset options, click it to restart your Mac. Then take one of these steps:
Sign in with your Apple ID, if asked. You might also be asked to enter the verification code sent to your other devices.
Enter your FileVault recovery key, if asked. It's the long string of letters and numbers you received when you turned on FileVault and chose to create a recovery key instead of allowing your iCloud account to unlock your disk.
Select a user that you want to reset the password for, then click Next.
Enter your new password information, then click Next.
When the password reset is completed, click Restart.
Where do I go to see the option to restart and show password reset?
When you enter the password, if you have the option to reset it, it will be right under the "enter password" box.
Do you see it?
No
Understood
This is what you should be able to see
Lokked at the pic, shutdown, restarted but got the same Appleseed window
Sorry, can you please also tell me, did you forget the password to the MacBook that you are on right now?
Yes, I know the Apple ID but have forgotten the password.
Oh, got it.
Tried this. At step 3 above I don't see the option to reset. Have entered Apple ID, entered the characters in the given box and then get the rotating blue circle. Have tried all of these steps over the past few days with the same result
If you cannot reset your AppleID password online you can visit your local Apple store where they'll be able to reset it manually from their side.
Will their services cost me anything?
Absolutely not.
Another question: I have difficulty editing PDF files that I have created and saved on this MacBookPro. I've tried coping the file into a new pages doc but am unable to edit this new pages doc.
Okay
Can you please tell me which program do you use to create the PDFs in the first place?
Pages
Okay
So you first create them in pages, and after you have saved them as PDF you have difficulties to edit them again?
Yes,
Okay
Can you please describe the issues you have in a little bit more detail? Like which part of the process do you have difficulties with?
After I have copied the contents of the PDF into a new, empty pages doc, I save it as a pages doc and close. When reopening this same pages doc I'm unable to edit.
Understood.
I'm afraid Apple Pages will not allow you to edit your PDF files, the best app that allows that is Adobe Acrobat.
May be easier to answer this question: How do I edit a PDF doc that I have created and have saved on my MacBookPro?
Okay
Could you please try this :
Open the PDF Document you would like to Edit.
Open the editing mode by clicking Edit in the top toolbar. Click on the Text button. Choose the piece of text you want to edit. Edit text in PDF and click on the blank space to preserve your changes.
When I open the PDF and click on Edit there is no Text option either active or inactive.
Please try this :
Here’s how to use the edit tools in Quick Look to fill in a PDF on a Mac:
Find the PDF you want to edit.
Select it and press the spacebar.
When you press the spacebar a preview of the file will appear on your screen.
In the top right of the preview, look for the icon that looks like a pencil. Click on it.
Now you will see the editing tools (not the pdf) I'm unable to edit.
Tried this yesterday with no joy. Have now solved the issue: I created and saved the original doc in saved pages format and am able to edit this. I will now quit this chat. Thanks for your help.
You are most welcome!
