My computer running Window 11 has been hacked

How to run a virus scan?

Short summary:

  1. Change your phone number and update it in your bank accounts to prevent scammers from contacting you.
  2. Check if your Microsoft account is accessible by visiting the login page at https://login.microsoftonline.com/. If you are not able to access your account, contact Microsoft support immediately.
  3. Run an antivirus scan on your computer and mobile device to detect and remove any viruses or malware. Follow these steps:
    a. Click the Start button in the bottom-left corner of your screen.
    b. Type "Windows Security" and select the app from the search results.
    c. Click on the "Virus & threat protection" option in the left-hand menu.
    d. Click on the "Quick scan" button to start a quick scan of your computer for viruses and malware.
    e. If you want a more thorough scan, you can select the "Scan options" link and choose the type of scan you want to run.
  4. Check if someone else is connected to your computer by following these steps:
    a. Press the Windows key + X on your keyboard to open the Quick Link menu.
    b. Click on "Windows PowerShell (Admin)" to open a command prompt with administrative privileges.
    c. Type the command "netstat -a" and press Enter. This will display a list of all the active network connections on your computer.
    d. If someone is connected to your computer, it would have the name of his computer as well as the Full name.
  5. To prevent hacking, follow these tips:
    a. Use a strong password and change it frequently.
    b. Regularly perform a virus scan.
    c. Keep your operating system and other software up to date with the latest security patches and updates.
    d. Use two-factor authentication for your user accounts wherever possible.
    e. Be cautious when downloading and opening email attachments or clicking on links from unknown sources.
  6. Block any suspicious phone numbers that have contacted you and don't click on any suspicious links.
  7. Lastly, be aware that Microsoft does not have a direct phone number, so if it says to call Microsoft at any phone number, it is a scam.
