I keep having issues changing ink cartridges on my Epson 7820

The carrier stays in the locked position on the right side

Short summary:

  1. Open the top cover of your printer.
  2. Take a look at the left side inside of the printer, you should see something that looks like a wheel.
  3. Shut the printer down and unplug the device.
  4. Manually rotate the wheel until the little lever that blocks the carriage moves.
  5. Once these steps are done, you should be able to move the carrier easily and remove the old cartridge.
  6. Insert the new cartridge into the slot and push it down until it clicks into place.
  7. Close the top cover lid.
  8. Turn the printer back on and wait for the cartridges to move into position.
  9. Your printer is now ready to use with the new ink cartridge.

If you encounter any issues with the above steps, you can try the following:

  1. With the top cover of your printer closed, turn on the device.
  2. Once you start hearing the cartridges move, unplug the device.
  3. Open the top cover lid.
  4. You should now be able to move the cartridge carrier.
  5. Follow the steps above to replace the ink cartridge.

Hello, thank you for using Howly.

Got it....thanks

Before you go, is there anything else I can assist you with today?

Is there a setting for changing the cartridges without going through this?

Such malfunction is normally a rare occassion and should not happen often, so unfortunately there are no specific settings that might be set up for this
Do you often face such an issue with your printer, sir?

Customer Replay

ok thanks. at least i know how to deal with it in the future
ive had the issue twice before

I see, and may I ask for how long have you had the printer?

Customer Replay

less than 6 months

So pretty new then, the model is one of the recent too.
If you will keep having the same malfunction in the future, I would suggest you visit a service center. If you have a warranty it should not be any trouble
Just to ensure that the hardware part of the printer is alright

hopefully im good for now
thanks for your help

I am so pleased to see your issue got resolved!
