I have WhatsApp on my old phone and want to link it to my new one

The problem is that my old phone won't allow me to receive SMS because it only receives emergency calls

Short summary:

  1. Install WhatsApp on your new phone and open the app. Enter the new phone number associated with the new SIM card during the setup process.
  2. WhatsApp will send a verification code to your new phone number. Enter the code when prompted to verify your new phone number.
  3. Once your new phone number is verified, you can restore your chat history if it is available. WhatsApp will guide you through this process.
  4. Notify your contacts about the change in your phone number. You can manually contact each person individually to inform them about your new WhatsApp account and phone number.
  5. To change the privacy settings for your status updates, open WhatsApp on your new phone.
  6. Tap on "Status" and then tap on "More options" (represented by three dots).
  7. Select "Status privacy" to access the privacy settings for your status updates.
  8. You will see options such as "My contacts," "My contacts except…," and "Only share with…".
  9. Choose the desired option based on who you want to share your status updates with. You can select "My contacts" to share with all your contacts, "My contacts except…" to exclude certain contacts, or "Only share with…" to share with specific contacts only.
  10. Update your status accordingly to let your contacts know about your new account and phone number.

Hello, thank you for using Howly.
Could you kindly specify: does WhatsApp allow you any other option, but sending an SMS on your old device?

It gives the option to call but the old phone doesn't receive calls

Ok. Did you reinstall your app?

Customer Replay

yes. But old phone is saying I've transferred account to new phone

But you can't Sign in, because you can't verify your account, correct?

Customer Replay

Yes, and I'd like it on both phones

  2. Verification process: WhatsApp will send a verification code to the new phone number. Enter the code when prompted to verify your new phone number.
  3. Notify contacts: After successfully verifying your new phone number, WhatsApp will prompt you to restore your chat history, if available. You can then inform your contacts about the change in your phone number.

OK, give me a few minutes. I'm texting from my new phone
Actually it's on my new phone now. Should I uninstall then reinstall?

Yes, please.

Customer Replay

Yes just downloading WhatsApp. That's done now. So how do I tell people my new number?

You'll be prompted to create a new WhatsApp account, *****.
After that, WhatsApp will ask you to permit access to contacts on your new phone.
So, you'll be able to contact them from your new account.
After that, you can manually contact everybody about your new account.

Can I do the status update and include who I want on it?

In that case, you can choose to share your status updates with all your contacts or selected contacts only.
By default, your status updates are shared with all your contacts. So, you need to tap Status - tap More options > Status privacy.
And change this setting manually.

Customer Replay

Yes then I can choose who to share with I think?

Correct.
You'll see several options there.

  1. My contacts: All your contacts will see your status updates.
  2. My contacts except…: Only contacts in your phone’s address book, except those you exclude, will see your status updates.
  3. Only share with…: Only the contacts you select will see your status updates.
