i have a sony BDVE3100 blu ray home theater, and I would like to attach a 4k UHD blu ray player, by passing the player built in to the home theater

Can this be done?

Hello, thank you for using Howly.
Do you mean that you would like to connect an external blu ray player to your Sony BDVE3100?

yes

Have you already bought an external blue ray player or you are just curious if it's possible to connect it to your sony?

Customer Replay

i know that I would connect the 4k blu ray player directly to my 4k TV, but how would I get sound from the home theatre?
I have not bought it yet.

As I see - yes, you can connect an external player. It usually connects with an HDMI cable, which will transfer sound from the player to your tv, and your tv will transfer the sound to your speakers. Sometimes it may require connecting speakers directly to the player. It depends on the model.
Do you have any additional questions I can help you with?

is there a way to connect the 4k player to the Sony home theatre so that it will use the surround sound speakers? Can you use a standard RCA pin plug to run the sound? I noticed my home theater has inputs for the old fashioned RCA pin plugs for sound.

Currently your home theatre is connected to your tv, correct?

Customer Replay

yes, that's correct.

In this case, it most likely would not require to re-connect your theatre to an external player. You can keep everything as it is, and simply connect the player to the tv, and everything should work properly.

Customer Replay

ok. That should work. Thanks.

You're welcome!
Is there anything else I can do for you today?

Customer Replay

No I think that'll do it. Thanks again.
