How to work with Spotify service: setup Spotify correctly

If you want to get the best user experience, you should set up the service. Luckily, Spotify has a user-friendly interface, so you can quickly customize it for your needs.

Download and install the Spotify app

Get this service as an app on your phone. You can work in a browser, but using it as an application would be more convenient. Spotify is available for AppStore for iOS and Google Play for Androids.

Unfortunately, you can’t load this app with Huawei’s App Gallery. So if you have a Huawei or Honor device, you can use only the web version. You can add Spotify images for custom playlists, but it will not be as user-friendly as possible.

Register for a Spotify account

 How to use Spotify

Log into the service with your Facebook or Google accounts. You can also create your profile with any email. The easiest way is to create a Spotify account with a Facebook page. If your Meta-friends have a Spotify page, you can see them in the suggested friendliest.

Setting up Spotify

Once you sign in from a mobile phone, the system may ask you to choose your favorite musicians. It helps Spotify to get a better understanding of your music taste. Once you’re done with the selection, tap on Continue.

You’ll see a Spotify home page with many suggested playlists. They split into five main categories: sounds like [one of your favorite artists], moods, featured charts, biggest hits of your favorite genres, and fresh music.

Navigating Spotify

Once you enter Spotify, you see its main page, where you see dozens of playlists. Tap on them to expand and see songs in those playlists. Further navigation on how to Spotify depends on which version you are using.

 How to use Spotify

If you are using the phone app, you’ll see navigation at the bottom of the screen. The home button brings you back to the homepage. Tap on a Search button to see another browse menu: you’ll see 50+ themed recommendations for every popular genre and life occasion. If it’s not enough, tap on a search bar and type a song/album/artist name to find a particular track.

Tap on the Your Library tab to see your whole music library. Tap on Playlists to see added and custom playlists inside your library. Tap on Albums to see a list that contains every album from your music library. Tap on Artists to see which artists you listen to.

If you are using the free version, you’ll see a Premium tab with information about the perks of paid membership. Tap on any plan to switch to it immediately.

 How to use Spotify

But how does Spotify work on computers? The desktop version has a slightly different interface. You’ll see three main tabs (Home, Search, and Your Library) at the top left corner of a window. Slightly below you’ll see Create a Playlist and a Liked Songs button.

You’ll also manage a list of your playlists: click on it to open or right-click to expand its menu.

When you start to play a song, you’ll see three few unusual icons in the low right corner:

  • Microphone — shows a track’s lyrics.
  • Bubble with two lines below — track’s queue, which shows the next songs in a line.
  • Speakers — connect to another device to play music from it. Make sure that it’s connected to the same network and has an open Spotify. Tap on this button to switch playback between devices.

Other playback options are standard. Tap on a like button (looks like a green heart) to add it to a library.

Creating a playlist: how to add tracks and Spotify pics to it

You can create your playlist in less than 2-3 minutes. Just stick to these easy guidelines:

  1. Open Spotify and visit the Your Library tab.
  2. Tap on a + logo to create a playlist
  3. Write the playlist’s name and start to add tracks.

You can add tracks in two ways. Here is how you add a song while browsing:

  1. Open Spotify and go to the already existing playlist or album.
  2. Tap on the triple dots and select Add to a playlist.
  3. Choose a playlist.

If you wish to insert certain songs or albums, choose the next instruction:

  1. Open a playlist on Spotify.
  2. Tap on the icon with a plus sign.
  3. Tap on a search bar and write the song you want to add.
  4. Choose the correct option from the search results.
  5. Tap on a plus button near this song to add it to your playlist.

Spotify also suggests similar music to spice up the playlist. Just tap on the + button to add it. If you want to add a cover, stick to this Spotify tutorial:

  1. Open one of your playlists.
  2. Tap on the upper part of the screen.
  3. Take a photo or select an image from a gallery.
  4. Select the picture and tap on Choose and Save.

How to remove songs

 How to use Spotify

The more music you listen to on Spotify, the more customized offers you’ll get. But what to do if you no longer listen to these singers, bands, or even a whole genre? What should you do as a Spotify user to stop getting those recommendations?

Delete those songs from your library, so the system starts to recommend them less:

  1. Open Spotify and go to the Your Library tab.
  2. Open the playlist or album and pick a virtual button that looks like the dots.
  3. Select Remove From the Library.
  4. You can also tap on the minus button. It excludes a song from your taste profile, so you see it (and the artist) less and less. You can tap on the dots near a track and choose the Hide Song option. It’s another way to perform the same action.

Beware that those songs may come back to your recommendations from time to time. It’s impossible to fully remove some songs from the recommendations, but it’s feasible to minimize them while using Spotify. After a few weeks of intentional ignoration, those tracks will be a rare visitor of your playlists.

How to find people and friends on Spotify

 How to use Spotify

The easiest way to find friends on Spotify is to use an auto-finder, but you should sync your Spotify with a Facebook page. Use this guide:

  1. Tap on a gear logo.
  2. Choose View Profile → Find Friends. The service starts automatically researching your Facebook friends on this service. If you don’t sync Fb and Spotify, the system offers you to do this.
  3. You can also search for people manually. Type their username in the search box: and you’ll see their profile in the results.

F.A.Q.

How to add pictures to use for Spotify playlists?

Open your playlist and long tap on the top part of the screen. You’ll see two options: take a photo or choose a picture. Select the preferable option, and tap on Save to confirm your choice.

How do I use Spotify when I want to create my playlist?

Open the app and go to Your Library tab. Tap on a + (Plus) sign, write a playlist’s name, and choose Save. Add tracks by tapping Add to a playlist. Write the song’s title in a search bar or add something recommended by Spotify.

Wrapping up

As you see, Spotify is a user-friendly streaming service with an immersive recommendation system. You can create your playlist by forming them manually or letting system recommendations fill your playlist.

The other peculiarity of Spotify is a switching playback option. You can start playing music on one device and continue on another seamlessly.
