How to clear Google Maps history

GMaps is a service that operates equally well on multiple systems. But each one of them has its own features, so you’ll get similar but slightly different instructions on how to delete history from google maps.

They are easy to implement, so you just need to strictly apply them step by step. You can remove all records or just some of them. It depends on your needs.

On an Android phone or tablet

This instruction fits any Android device. GMaps is a proprietary app, so it will be easy to adjust its settings:

1. Open GMaps.
2. Swipe right from the left part of the screen to open the menu.
3. Find Settings → Maps history. From now you can remove the whole history or just some individual locations.

To remove individual locations, find the specific location or date that you want to delete google maps history. Tap on the three stacked dots and tap on Delete. Confirm your intentions by tapping on Delete again.

On iPhone or iPad

GMaps is not a proprietary app for iOS systems. Thus, when you wish to delete recent searches on iPhone’s Google Maps you should stick to similar, but not identical Android instructions. Here are they:

1. Open GMap and tap on your photo

1. Launch maps.google.con and go to the top-left corner.
2. Pick the three stacked lines.
3. Choose Your Data in Maps → Google-wide → Location History → See & delete.
4. Find the red box at the left part of the display. It reveals how many spots you saw with working Google Maps.
5. Find a trashcan icon on the right side of the Timeline. Click on it.

It removes all info from the timeline, including search history.

How to auto-remove GMaps history

You don’t even need to remove location history manually. You can set it to auto-mode. Here is what you should do to delete Google Maps history:

1. Launch GMaps and swing to the settings.
2. Tap on Delete automatically on Android and web versions. Pick the Auto-Delete option on iOS.
3. Select the period to save your location data.

You can pick between any time in the range of up to 18 months. For instance, if you do this operation 1 January 1, 2024, and select a 3-month timeframe, the system will delete all location history that was before October 1, 2023.

If you are already set up with this auto-removal process, you’ll see a Choose how long to keep. If you set it for 2 months on October 1, 2023, your location information from that day will be removed on December 1, 2023. Location history from October 2 removes on December 2 and so on.
