What can I do about my Roku tv cutting out in the midst of programs I'm watching?

It doesn't matter what streaming channel (Pluto, Peacock etc.) I'm watching.

Hello, thank you for using Howly. I’ll be happy to help you out! May I ask your name?

*****

Nice to meet you, *****!
What troubleshooting have you done so far?

Customer Replay

I don't know what to do. I'm having issue with my Roku streaming channels. No matter what channel I select it will play a program for a few, then go back to the home menu. I don't understand. I have internet access, I pay my bill monthly...I don't get it.

Could you please tell me when and how did the problem occur?

Customer Replay

This problem is ongoing. I don't know "how" or why. I thought it might have something to do with Xfinity "upgrading" stuff in the community. Well, they're not in the community at the moment and I'm still having this issue.

Was it always like that?
Or was there a specific date when it started acting like that?
Or month, year, etc.

Customer Replay

No, this "hiccup" just started maybe about a month ago. I can't exactly remember. But long enough to be getting on my nerves.

And you don't see any error messages, correct?

Customer Replay

"No error" messages. This voice comes on and tell me I'm back at the menu. The "voice" thing is new as well. I've had the tv for almost 3 years and have never heard a voice, or had programs quit playing midstream.

Can you tell me the exact words of this voice?

Customer Replay

This "voice" tells me when I'm back at the home menu, it reads the synopsis, of the programs, and evens speaks when the programs begin. Was this descriptive enough?

Yes.
It seems like a classic text-to-speech feature.
Scroll up or down and select Settings on your Roku TV. Press the right arrow button and select Accessibility. Press the right arrow button and select Screen reader. Press the right arrow button and select OFF to disable the text-to-speech feature.

Customer Replay

It makes sense to me.

In the meantime, I'll check your main issue.
And possible ways to resolve that problem.
I think that your Roku TV simply has a saver function enabled (and it turns your programs)
So, you can turn it off too.

  1. Click [HOME] on your Roku TV and go to Settings again.
  2. From Settings, select Network
  3. In Network, you need to find a "Bandwidth Saver"
  4. Turn it off like the text-to-speech feature.

And let me know if any of the steps are not quite clear.
I'll be happy to clarify them for you!

Customer Replay

Mia, it's gonna take me a minute to execute instructions. My tv is downstairs, my computer stairs, and I had to manually write down the instructions. I'm still with you.

No problem, *****!
Take your time.

Customer Replay

I just turned off the speech features. What do I do about the program cutting out?

Now, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Click [HOME] on your Roku TV and go to Settings again.
  2. From Settings, select Network
  3. In Network, you need to find a "Bandwidth Saver"
  4. Turn it off like the text-to-speech feature.

After that, your cutting-out issue should be resolved.

Mia, I had to run up and down stairs. I did as you instructed me. Now I want to wait a few minutes with you to make sure the program doesn't quit. Is that alright with you?

Of course
Keep me posted about the results.

Customer Replay

I will. I just want to hold on with you for a few more minutes? It's almost time for me to leave out for work anyway. I'm doing all this for my elderly mother.

No problem!

Customer Replay

Ok. I haven't heard anything from downstairs yet.
Mia, it looks like all is well on the home front. I certainly appreciate the courtesy of your time and your service.

You're welcome!
I’m glad I was able to get that sorted out for you. Before you go, is there anything else I can assist you with today?

Customer Replay

There is...but we're gonna have to connect at another time. Now I'm leaving to fight traffic on my way to work. That will be all for now. Thank you so very much for your service.

Got it! In that case, thank you for choosing our service, *****.
