it asks me to input my optus modem password, however I cannot see how the hand console is capable of me inputing data

Please try to press and hold the power button on the remote for 20 seconds and then release it to reset it.
Also, you could remove and reinsert batteries. If by any chance you've had the remote for a while you may need new batteries, even if still seems functional.

Done both aand restarted...I am back to the optus password screen so how do I use the consile now

In this case, try to unplug the power cable to your modem/router and wait about 60 seconds. Reconnect the power cable to your modem/router and make sure it's turned on. Wait until the device is finished making it's connection to the internet and your network. After that try again, please.

All done and still the same story. Can you tell me the function keys on the console that allows me to enter word and numbers
