I have a brother sewing machine that has never been used or turned on. It is at least 4 years old. It turns on but that's it. The foot pedal does not work. The red light is on and the screen but you can not change it.

When performing any sewing, you need to use the right pace. Usually, when sewing, you should not be too slow. Sewing slowly is one of the reasons why the foot pedal will stop working.
The best thing you can do here to avoid this is to increase the sewing speed. Besides, you need not run it at a very high speed. Of course, it won’t help you sew faster, but that will make the foot pedal hot.

OK I will try that.

Resting your foot on the pedal may be another reason why it stops working. Typically when the foot is on the pedal, you may turn it on a little bit. However, you might not notice this.
1. Also touch the LCD screen.
2. Then lower the presser foot.
3. Press the start/stop button to get an error message as to why the machine is not ready to start to appear on the LCD screen.
