I am Trying to update my tomtom Computer My Drive says tomtom not connected

I am trying to update my tom tom. My Drive says TOM TOM not connected remove USB and then reconnect. Tom Tom says do not disconnect. What do I do? It looks as if I have lost my maps as well

    turn it on again. Make sure the charging light on your device is on.
  2. Reset your device > Press and hold the On/Off button until your device restarts. Keep the button pressed until you hear the drums, then release it. This can take more than fifteen seconds.
