Function buttons

The most basic way to take screenshots on Samsung is to push the Power and Volume Down side keys simultaneously. Old Galaxy phones (produced before 2019) had these buttons on both sides, while some new Galaxy smartphones could have them on one side (left or right).

Gestures

Some Galaxy devices allow you to use smart gestures. Check that you’ve turn these settings on:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Choose Advanced Motions.
  3. Find the “Palm swipe to capture” option. Toggle the switch to turn it on.
Swipe to screenshot

After activating this function, you can take screenshots with an easy gesture. Just place the hand on the right side of the display and sway it to the left.

Quick Settings

Some Samsung Galaxy smartphones have a screenshot button inside the Quick Settings menu. Here is how to take screenshots this way:

  1. Go to the desktop or other app that allows you to swipe a curtain with Quick Settings inside.
  2. Find a Screen capture button and tap on it.
Use Quick Settings to screenshot

Once you do it, the menu slides the app, and your phone captures what happens on the screen.

Power Button menu

Most Samsung Galaxy smartphones have this screenshot option. Hold the Power switch until you notice a pop-up on your screen. Then choose the Screenshot option. Shortly after the phone captures the screen, the pop-up will disappear.

Third-party tools

External tools often give you more options than a built-in capturer. Some allow you to erase the objects, and others have a built-in search, etc. We’ve gathered 3 most popular capture apps, so you don’t need to search it now:

  • Screen Master. It allows you to cut the background and save pic as PNG so that you can make custom stickers for messengers. You can add emojis, save the entire webpage, add text or change the ratio in the app.
  • Assistive Easy Touch. It has a built-in space cleaner and RAM booster, so you can save space. It doesn’t leave watermarks. You can select the resolution of video capturing between HD and FullHD.
  • Mobizen Screen Recorder. This free app lets you capture in 60 FPS and 1080 P quality. You can record the screen and edit it right in the app.

Bixby

Bixby is a built-in Samsung voice assistant like Siri on Apple devices. Say “Hi, Bixby” to wake the assistant. Later, say, “Take a screenshot” or “Screenshot,” and wait until Bixby captures the screen.

Ask Bixby to take a screenshot

Smart Select panel

Most Samsung phones have an additional Smart Select panel. Follow the next path: Settings Display Edge Panels Smart Select.

Use the Edge panel to capture

Here is how you can take a screenshot with this app:

  1. Go to the Desktop.
  2. Swipe right or left until you notice the panel.
  3. You will have 4 options for possible screenshots on the Galaxy smartphone: classic rectangle, lasso (you can set any shape), oval, or GIF. The last one captures a short video and creates an animation from it.
Use Edge Panel for custom screenshot

Summing up: how to take screenshots on a Samsung Galaxy phone

There are many ways to do this. Besides the classic Power + Volume way, you can use the Bixby assistant and the swipe gesture. In those cases, you don’t even need to touch your phone, so you can take a screenshot without anyone noticing it.

Call on the Smart Select panel, Power Button menu, or Quick Settings. They all have a screenshot feature. But if nothing from above suits your needs, try some third-party tools.
